All calls received outside the above normal business hours will connect directly to our answering service.  The service contacts the on-call phlebotomist(s) available for STAT orders.  For routine orders, please contact us during normal business hours.  Emergency calls will be answered 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

In the event that you get a message stating that phone lines are NOT IN SERVICE, please call (888)425-0091.  This number will connect with an answering service who will relay your issue to the appropriate department.

Specimen collections are scheduled with your account representative when you first establish an account with NICL Laboratories. Your account will be assigned a draw day(s) depending on testing volumes. Information about phlebotomy schedules can be obtained by contacting your account representative.

Routine phlebotomy services are not offered on Sunday
& the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas

Scheduling a Phlebotomy Order

When calling the laboratory to place a phlebotomy order, the following information is needed:
⦁ Name of facility calling in the order
⦁ Name of patient and room number
⦁ Test(s) needed to be done
⦁ Date and time needed
⦁ Type of order (routine, timed or STAT)
⦁ Name of person making the phone call
⦁ Make sure a test requisition is completed prior to the phlebotomist’s arrival

Specimen Pick-Up

Specimens that are collected by the nursing staff, will be picked-up via our phlebotomy team or courier services. Standing orders for tests, such as urinalysis should be collected and made available on your regular laboratory draw day. Specimens for culture should be collected per the Microbiology Specimen Storage & Transport Requirements.

Ensure that the specimen is collected prior to the phlebotomist or courier arrival at the facility to improve turnaround of patient results.

Scheduling a Specimen Pick-Up

When calling to request a specimen pick-up, the following information is needed:
⦁ Name of facility requesting the pick-up
⦁ Type of specimen to be picked up
⦁ Test(s) needed to be done
⦁ Name of patient
⦁ Place where specimen will be located in the facility
⦁ Name of person making the phone call
⦁ Place a completed test requisition with the specimen

The laboratory retains serum, urine and whole blood specimens for 7 days. Additional testing may be performed if the specimen is stable and the volume is sufficient after initial tests have been completed. We are required by Federal regulations to request written authorization for every test we perform. Our clients will receive a request for written confirmation for verbal test requests via hard copy reporting or by telephone. The physician or authorized employee must sign and return this written confirmation.

The supplies provided by NICL Laboratories to you are solely to be used for the collection and preparation of specimens which are being sent to our laboratory for testing. Type and quantity of items must correlate to the number of specimens submitted to NICL Laboratories for testing.
Please allow one week for delivery of lab supplies.
